Suspended ZAROTA Boss, Rabiu Yandoto

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has approved the suspension of the Commandant of Zamfara state Road Traffic Agency over protests by tricycle operators in the state.

In a Statement in a statement signed by one of his media aides Governor Matawalle said the suspension was to allow full scale investigation into the circumstances that led to the protest

He also directed the suspended ZAROTA boss to handover all official properties in their possession to the Secretary to the State government with immediate effect.

The tricycle operators in Gusau, the state capital had earlier organized a peaceful demonstration to register their anger over what they called an attempt to render them jobless by the commandant of the Agency.

The commandant of the agency was appointed Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle after his predecessor was sacked in a controversial circumstance.

One of the aggrieved operators identified as Abdullahi Abubakar told Smart News that they were pushed to the wall by a dismissed Colonel and Commandant of the ZAROTA, Rabi’u Garba Yandoto who forced them to pay N10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Naira) as annual registration fee for each tricycle and a Tax of N100 (One Hundred Naira) daily as Revenue for the state government.

Abdullahi lamented that the personnel of the ZAROTA had beaten his colleagues, impounded their tricycles and dumped them at their office .

“They seized over 150 tricycles which we use as means of to eke out a living as most of us went to schools but not employed,” he lamented.

Abdullahi Abubakar noted that they had drawn the attention of security agencies, Emir of Gusau and other stakeholders to their plight but had not received any response yet.

On his part, the Chairman of the National Association of Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Owners and Riders, NACTOMORAS, Zamfara State Chapter, Bello Rahala said they had received complaints from their members and swung into action to resolve the issue amicably, saying the registration fee is high hence the need to review it.

Rihala who called on the young tricycle operators to be patient as they were in talks with government adding that, the association is ready to support government and they also have protect their members.
