According to Governor Zulum, the test was not conducted to dismiss a teacher, but to test their skills to determine where they would be placed.
The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has unexpectedly tested some primary school teachers in Baga.
Zulum tested the teachers to test their competency in teaching, according to a statement posted on the state government’s social media page.
The governor is on a working visit to Baga, a well-known business district in Lake Chad, where he spent a day.
“Zulum told the teachers that the test was not to dismiss a teacher, but to test their skills to determine where they would be placed.” The statement said.
According to Zulum, those who are inexperienced in teaching will be given the option of being reassigned or sent to pursue higher education.
“At the end of each year, each teacher’s and student’s education will be assessed and the government will provide them with accommodation and other amenities,” Zulum said.
The statement added that after the examination, Governor Zulum announced a grant of N20,000 and 10 certificates for each teacher.
“As long as you make a contribution to the community, we will support you, we will test you, and those who should be paid will be paid.” Zulum said.
