Manchester United have completed the signing of France international Raphael Varane from Real Madrid on a four-year deal.
United had earlier agreed a fee in the region of 34 34million for Real on 26 34m, which would amount to 42 42m plus dividends.
United have long been tracking Varane, whose contract expires at Real Madrid next autumn.
Varane first played as a professional footballer at Lens in France, then moved to Real Madrid where he played 360 games.
He made 79 appearances for France, making four appearances at Euro 2020, in a farewell match in the second round.
The 28-year-old has won three La Liga titles and four Champions League titles with Real Madrid in his 10 seasons in Spain.
Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been tracking the player since he moved to Madrid and Jose Mourinho tried to sign him during his time at Old Trafford.
Varane is United’s third signing of the year, after Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for fam 73m and goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
He is also expected to play alongside Harry Maguire at United’s defense from center-back alongside Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.
