All movements and activities will be shut down in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state by 2pm of Sunday.
This development came barely 24 hours after the state Governor Simon Bako Lalong imposed a dusk to Dawn curfew in three L.G.A’s of Jos North, South and Bassa due to the killing of 24 innocent religious travellers at Gada Biyu Saturday morning by Birom Irate youths.
The killing started degenerating escalating into tribal and religious killing and destruction of lives and properties in some communities of Nepa in Bassa and some parts of the Jos North L.G.A’s
Sporadic gun shots was heard early Sunday morning which female eye witness Mami Abdullahi said was shots by security operatives to quell the imminent rising reprisal attacks.
Many lives were lost properties with hundred of Naira was destroyed Saturday night leaving the government with no option than to necessary measures to dismal the outrage.
Lalong said Sunday Morning that the decision to imposed the 24 hour curfew in Jos North born out of security reports which indicates rising threats to the safety of lives and properties within the Local Government stressing that the 24 hour imposition of the curfew is indefinite.
The governor said “From 2pm of today, Sunday 15th August 2021, a 24-hour curfew will come into effect in Jos North Local Government Area.
“This is necessitated by security reports which indicate rising threats to the safety of lives and properties within the Local Government.”
Lalong urges residents to abide by the curfew and remain indoors to allow security agencies maintain law and order and deal with those bent on causing chaos.
