Zamfara State government urged Journalists not to Demoralize troops fighting criminals in the State through their reportage.
Commissioner for Information Mr. Ibrahim Magaji Dosara who made the plea During a One Day Capacity Building Seminar organized by the Credentials Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Legacy Newspapers Gusau, said the Press need to restrain from reports that either incite members of the public or discourage security men from the current onslaught against terrorists in the State.
Dosara who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr. Sani Nasarawa explained that, “Journalists need to be mindful of the fact that, there is no report that is equal to to human” therefore charged them to avoid any report that can cause mischiefs and confusion that can lead to loss of lives and property.
According to him, the State government is committed to the safety of lives and property of the State populace, hence the need to be supported.
The Commissioner for information appealed to the working Journalists in the State to “Practice with full tenets and ethnics of journalism Profession and warned quacks and Social Media ranters to desist from infiltrating into the profession with their unethical tendencies “
On his Part, Dr. Anas Sani Anka, Managing Editor, Thunderblowers Online News Medium who presented a Paper titled “Technical Approach for News Report” called on journalists to respect the ethnics of the profession and charged them to key into modern journalism by upgrading themselves to the Digital era.
Anas Anka, who called on Journalists to embrace the New Media professionally, said only trained Journalists can purify the new media and clear the unethical issues being complained about.
He also called on them to embrace the idea of networking to ease their operations and ensure proper dissemination of accurate information to the public.
Earlier, Chairman of the credentials Committee, Comrade Dahiru Samaila Magara said, the seminar was organized as part of the tradition of activities of Credentials committee which was constituted to conduct election of new executives of the Legacy Newspapers Chapel of the NUJ
He added that, the committee decided to organized the capacity building session with the sole aim of preparing their reporters to meet the desired requirements for full operation of the new online section of the newspaper.
