Governor Bello Muhammed (Matawalle) of Zamfara state has on Saturday, flagged off the award of contracts under Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) for 2020 projects in the state.
The project which was awarded to the indigenous contractors which includes the construction of new Classroom Blocks, offices and general renovation of primary schools estimated to cost over N1.5bn.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to Governor Matawalle, Jamilu Iliyasu Birnin Magaji, on Saturday.
While urging the contractors to ensure compliance with the contract specifications and timeline, Governor Matawalle has also explained that Education is the topmost priority to his administration apart from security, saying that he has since declared a state of emergency on education and has so far appropriated a substantial part of the state budget to the education sector.
He added that apart from the clearance of examination fees backlog owed by the state and awards of international scholarships to Zamfara indigenes to study abroad, his administration has also paid promotion and salary arrears to primary and secondary teachers across the state.
Matawalle noted that the state government had launched Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program with a view to improve access to basic education and enhance service delivery in the state.
