Taraba State Sports Council says the arrangement has been concluded to host the Zonal Elimination to the 6th youths Games in the state begins on Friday, the 3rd of October, 2021.

The Director of Sports Council, George Shita who disclosed this while speaking with our Correspondent in Jalingo said the 6th youths games are scheduled to take place in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital from 10th to 16th of this month.

He said it is expected that winners of the games will represent the zone in the team events sports in the upcoming games in Ilorin.

According to him, the games were zoned in Taraba state following critical factors ranging from security, sporting facilities which made other states take advantage of it in the northeast to enable the sports to thrive.

“We have about six North-Eastern states including Taraba and it was supposed to be in Yobe state but I think the federal ministry of youth and sports saw the facilities available at the Jolly Nyame stadium and the relatively peaceful and calm nature of Taraba state, so they decided to move it from Yobe to Taraba state and I think it was not a mistake, they are right in doing that,” Shitta added.

The Director of Sports Council while expressing optimism that the championship would be very fruitful appealed to the citizens of the state especially those leaving within Jalingo, the state capital to come around to watch and cheer the teeming youths of the state to victory.

“We are appealing to citizens of Taraba state to come around and cheer our boys to victory because it’s not going to be easy, and these are our teeming youths who are very talented, therefore we should come and watch and see our youths do the state proud”. George Shitta emphasized.

He further explained that: “This is just the beginning if we look at it, grassroots sports development is so important and that is why the federal ministry of youth and sports have this as a national youth game for players under-15 downward just to have a very robust senior team ahead and the Taraba State Sports Council have keyed into that.

“As I assumed office, I hurriedly created a grassroots sports department headed by Bakari Shamaki which we are going to the grassroots to discover talents and nurture them to greater heights”. George Shitta revealed.
