Bandits on Tuesday, killed several people and abducted many others in Gangara community, Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria, in an early morning attack.
Residents said the bandits arrived at the village minutes before the Muslim early morning prayers, Subhi, setting houses and shops ablaze.
A local source, Lawal Kakale, told Premium Times that the number of those killed could not be immediately ascertained.
“It was horrendous. The bandits came in high number and started shooting sporadically. They also went from house to house killing people, especially women and children,” Mr Kakale said.
“some residents fell into a stream in the village while running away from the attackers”; he said.
Mr Kakale added that the community has been deserted with most of the villagers trooping to Sabon Birni and other villages considered safer.
This attack is coming four days after bandits loyal to Turji and Halilu Sububu attacked an Operation Hadarin Daji camp and killed 17 security agents in Dama village under Sabon Birni.
The police spokesperson in the state, Sanusi Abubakar, did not respond to Premium Times calls and SMS sent to him on the attack
