Zamfara State Chief Judge (CJ) Justice Kulu Isah Aliyu has sworn-in a Seven Man Panel saddled with the responsibility of investigating the allegations leveled against the state Deputy Governor, Barr Mahadi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau for impeachment.

While inaugurating the panel, at the State High Court in Gusau, the Chief Judge said she constituted the committee inline with the provision of the constitution, Section 188(5)

She explained that, “The use of the word ‘shall’ in section 188(5) imposes a duty on me as the Hon. Chief Judge of Zamfara State to appoint a panel of seven persons who are of unquestionably integrity, not being members of any public service, legislative houses or political party”

She therefore tasked the Panel to discharge their duty without fear or favour, affection or ill will in accordance with the oath they have taken.

Justice Kulu who enjoined the panel to work as a team said she is confidence that, they are equal to the task. Noting that, the powers of the panel are specified in section 188(7) of the constitution.

The CJ called in the Panel to concentrate on the issues contained in the Notice of Allegations attached to the instrument of their appointment, saying the person to be investigated be given the opportunity to defend himself either in person or by a legal practitioner of his choice.

Responding, Chairman of the Panel, Hon. Justice Halidu Tanko Soba (rtd) vowed to work in accordance with the provision of the law as contained in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

No time frame was given for which the Panel to work within.

The Panel Members includes; Halidu Tanko Soba, Chairman; Oladipo Okpeseyi (SAN); Abdul Atadoga Ibrahim (SAN); Hussaini Zakariyau (SAN); Amina Tanimu Marafa; Alh. Sani Mande; and Ahmad Buhari Rabah while Barrister Umar Asho will serve as Secretary of the Panel (with no vote)
