Members of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) attacked Headquarters of the Zamfara State Fire Service and Implicated injuries to four Senior officers of the Service including Executive Director.

The Operatives of the State Fire Service were engaged in Physical Combat with the Members of the NURTW in Gusau following misunderstanding between a fire fighter and a member of NURTW.

Muhammad Lawal who witnessed the combat disclosed that, the rift which occurred at premises of the Zamfara State Fire service when a staff of the fire Service parked his personal Car (Golf Saloon) in front of fire service office located at Samuru area in Gusau the state Capital were some Commercial Drivers mount illegal motor park nearby.

According to him, a member of the NURTW (Anas) attempted to arrest the fire service officer for suspecting him to have parked the car to pick passengers which he was not true according to him, saying he parked it to enter office, after coming back from mechanic workshop for repairs, however it resulted to serious fight using dangerous weapons, such as Sticks, Stones and Merchetts.

Lawal said, in not more than 20 minutes Four Buses led by the NURTW Chairman arrived the scene and the Chairman quickly turned his car (Honda Civic) Horizontally and blocked the main road in front of the fire service headquarters while the members stormed the Fire Service headquarters beating the personnel with sticks and cutlass which led the serious injuries to the head of the Executive Director of the Fire Service, Alh. Abdullahi Jibo Dauran and 4 other senior officers of the service who were currently receiving emergency medical attention.

When contacted, the Fire service Executive Director Abdullahi Jibo Dauran who spoke to our reporter on Hospital Bed at Emergency unit of Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau said, he was trying to control his men whom he was able to push all of them in back to the headquarters and lock the gate and asked the NURTW member to please to leave, “one small boy amongst them just slap me and the other hit me with cutlass on my head” he lamented.

One of the service personal men told Radio Nigeria that, they handed over the NURTW Chairman and one other officer to police.

“They told us that, , they will go after us whenever we go out for our work, but the threat will not stop us from our legitimate duties” senior officer Aminu revealed.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Shehu Mohammed of the Zamfara State Police Command, has confirmed the incident, noting that, adding their Personnel are investigating the Matter as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkana
