The Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Sokoto, Prof. Bashir Garba said staff and students’ welfare would receive a boost during his administration.
Prof. Garba, MFR, made the pledge on Wednesday, 25th May, 2022, when he received in audience, the Executive members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), on a familiarization visit.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to’Smarts News’ by the Spokesman of the University, Zayyanu Shehu, who noted that, during the visit, which took place at the Senate Chamber of the University, Professor Garba urged the Union members to always employ dialogue as a means of resolving issues, rather than confrontation.
” The main thrust of unionism is understanding not disruption. Therefore, I’m enjoying you to always resolve issues amicably by engaging in dialogue rather than confrontation.
“You should consider your employer as a partner in progress instead of a foe. This will allow you to work towards the realization of the objectives of the University, ” the Vice-Chancellor advised.
He applauded the sense of patriotism displayed by the members of the Union whenever they are pursuing their entitlements.
Prof. Garba expressed his readiness to take the University to a greater height. He, similarly, urged the entire staff of the Institution to remain committed to discharging their duties, in order to complement the efforts of the Management in executing programs that are geared towards academic excellence and community service.
He further promised to boost the welfare of staff and students of the University. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the members of the Union for the visit.
In his address, the SSANU Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Maigandi assured the management of their support and cooperation to make the University an enviable institution.
Comrade Maigandi has also commended the Sokoto State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, (Mutawallen Sokoto) for appointing Prof. Bashir Garba as the Vice-Chancellor of the University sequel to the recommendation of the Governing Council. He added that the commendation became imperative looking at the leadership qualities of the Vice-Chancellor.
The Chairman further expressed the Union’s appreciation to the Governor for paying their outstanding allowances. He, therefore, promised to amicably settle issues if any.
Comrade Maigandi congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his well-deserved appointment and prayed to Almighty Allah to assist him in discharging his duties throughout his tenure.
