National Directorate of Employment (NDE)
has flag off training of 280 Youths selected from across the 14 Local Government Areas of Zamfara state.

Director General of the NDE Malam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo who addressed the trainers and the trainees in Gusau during the flag off/ Orientation ceremony of the Basic and Advanced National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B – NOAS) and (A -NOAS) respectively said the aim of the scheme was to make them self employed.

Noting that, unemployed school leavers are recruited and posted to Master Craftsmen and women who are informal sector operators to acquire marketable Vocational skills for decent job opportunities through the scheme within three months.

“The Advanced National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (A – NOAS) is advancement of from B – NOAS in which the A – NOAS trainees acquire new skills and modern methods of skills mismatch in accordance with the global entrepreneurship development as a means of promoting economic growth and development” he explained

The DG who was represented by the Acting State Coordinator of the NDE Zamfara State Office Alh. Mustapha Aliyu Goniri noted that 20 participants were selected from each of the 14 LGAs of the state where 10 from each will be trained on B-NOAS while the remaining 10 will be trained on A-NOAS, saying the training is going on in the 36 states of the Federation and FCT in which a total number of 15,480 youths will be trained in various skills.

According to him, in Zamfara State the selected youths will be trained on Tailoring, Knitting, Confectioneries, Computer Appreciation and Hair-Dressing. Saying a Monthly Stipend of N2,000 will be given to each of the trainees for transportation and a starter pack.

On his part, Director Vocational Skills Development NDE Abuja who was Represented by Zonal Officer Malam Abubakar Mustapha charged the trainees to be very serious on the training saying non serious trainees will be replaced and called on them work hard with a view to becoming master trainers and self employed.
